Did you hear about the tweets by Bing and Chrysler?
The PR Twits were busy this past week with crises in Japan and Libya and many tweets on public relations, investor relations, media relations, media training, news media, social media and much more.
If you missed The PR Coach’ daily stream on Twitter, we’ve got them here – 104 tweets just for PR and communications pros.
Here are a few of this week’s highlights:
In public relations, the big news was the Pew report on The State of the News Media 2011. Jeff Domansky analyzed the report and identified what PR pros should be looking for. The word of the week was “churnalism,” a website set up by UK journalism watchdogs to determine how much influence press releases were having on the news.
The PR Coach looked at PR predicaments and four trends for PR to watch as well as a smackdown of social media gurus and their annoying tweets from SXSW. The Media Blog outed an anti-nuclear activist group for blatant mistakes in its press release. The Nieman Journalism Lab highlighted an effort to crowdsource reporting on corruption across the US.
In blogging news, Heidi Cohen shared seven business blogging improvement tips while Michael Pollock showed how to open your next blog post with a bang. The New York Times’ Jennifer Preston looked at how when unrest develops, bloggers are quick to report new developments.
E Bruce Harrison examined the PR challenges faced by BP’s new leader Bob Dudley while The Washington Post took a critical view of BP’s four month internal investigation into the Gulf spill and that company’s attempt to shift and share the blame for the incident.
The Internal Comms Hub explored the role of social media in Japan’s crisis. Colin Gilchrest blogged about crisis management using social media while Danny Brown suggested how to handle comment trolls and flash mobs.
A new study suggests a correlation between social media and stock price and Software Radio Technologies’ (SRT) CEO Simon Tucker gets an innovation award for an investor relations video.
Dominic Jones highlighted a Corning IR video gone viral as well as an excellent set of tips and new ideas for PDF financial reports. Michael Robinson also warns about a rise in shareholder activism online.
Marketers were challenged by Jack Loechner who reported that retailer follow up on negative reviews pays off and Dirk Singer said a simple reply turns 1/5 of detractors into fans. Adrianna Llames looked at Chrysler and How The $#*! You Say Affects Your Brand. Jeff Bercovici reminded us that there’s no rehab, no aging and no whining with America’s Most Loved Spokescharacters in contrast to meltdowns from celebrity spokespeople.
Best media training tips of the week? Lessons provided by Phil Collins; a terrific collection of CBS 60 Minutes famous on camera “walk-offs”; why a bad apology is worse than no apology according to Brad Phillips; and, PRNewser‘s pitching tips for national broadcast programs.
We’ve got 15 excellent articles on news media and journalism. David Brazeal compares the psychology of journalists vs. bloggers and Felix Salmon looks at how blogs have changed journalism. Meagan Garber reports on a fascinating panel discussion on how long-form journalism is not dead. In a thoughtful essay, Paul Bradshaw provides insight into investigative journalism.
Take a look at our usualhelpful posts on PR job openings and PR intern opportunities.
Several notable PR Fails were evident including Bing and Groupon.
In social media, we had tips on Q and A sites, Quora, 7 awesome B2B Facebook pages and 8 better ways than Delicious to bookmark pages.
Simon Owens offered an excellent look inside Lady Gaga’s social media success that is a must-read and Jacob Share compared the personal pages about.me and flavors.me.
We finished up with lots more of the week’s best PR Twits on Solo PR, Twitter, PR agencies in our usual weekend funnies.
