This week the PR Twits sourced 95 terrific Twitter posts for PR people involving public relations, crisis management, internal communications, investor relations, media relations and media training, news and journalism, PR jobs, social media, Twitter and writing.
Rich Becker wrote one of the best posts of the year to date, a thoughtful look at the influence of average people including the revolution in Egypt through social media. The PR Coach served up 25 new press release turkeys, Joe Thornley shared a look at his typical PR CEO day and Heather Yaxley mused on how PR is a woman’s world. Over in the UK we learned about the big PR issues in 2011, how to write a news release from Inc. magazine and yes, the PR industry is recovering.
Toyota’s crisis management was a popular topic as BusinessWeek asked What have we learned?, James Donnelly noted how in the Toyota recall aftermath many protagonists fail inspection. The Red Cross did a superb job of PR disaster recovery on a rogue Tweet and Deon Binneman offered suggestions on maintaining or rewriting your crisis communication response plan.
In our investor relations segment, Dominic Jones at IR Web Report featured a superb look at how Dell, Inc. is breaking new ground for social media in investor relations. It’s almost a blueprint on how to do it right. In contrast, the BulletproofBlog examined how investor activism results from underperformance.
Linda Forrest shared valuable tips on pitching in the new media world. The PR Coach suggested that in both traditional media and social media you’re “always on the record.” This was evident in Anderson Cooper’s tough-minded interview of journalist Nir Rosen for his insensitive Twitter comments about the assault of CBS correspondent Laura Logan in Egypt.
PRWeb provided a useful cheat sheet on How to Pitch a National Journalist and Brad Phillips shared 21 must-read, media training tips for media spokespersons.
In journalism and media, the Nieman Journalism Lab offered Eight trends for journalism in 2011. Jason Klein looked at the role print newspapers have in a tablet-heavy future and the economics of blogging and The Huffington Post were featured in The New York Times as well.
PR measurement remained a hot topic this week. Rich Becker asked if online popularity is just a great big lie? and Shonali Burke offered her thoughts on why Klout should not be a synonym for influence. Lauren Fisher followed with an excellent guide to the best free social media monitoring tools.
Our social media posts were also prominent. Jeff Esposito’s 23 Social Media Facts to Share with Executives was a must-read for PR pros trying to sell senior executives on the need for and the ROI of social media. Heidi Cohen shared 5 tips on how to create social media guidelines.
And there’s much more below including PR jobs, Twitter tips, PR Fails, advice on better writing of other best PR Twits of the week.
Need more resources on public relations and Twitter? You can follow @thePRCoach Jeff Domansky on Twitter or get hundreds of additional Twitter tips and tactics in The PR Library.
As always, feel free to drop us a comment or suggestion on how we can make these PR Twits even more useful. Note Tweets with a W are PR Coach “winners” worth reading.
